I wrote this piece in collaboration with my four-and-a-half year old daughter, Mathilda.
Let me say that more honestly. I wrote this piece using text that I appropriated from my four-and-a-half year old daughter, Mathilda. You see, Mathilda has access to her mother's old iPhone, and she will use it to record videos of herself saying and doing things, including a six-part series of monologues in which she debates whether she is, or is not, a fairy princess.
I used her words from these videos to create I Am Not a Fairy Princess for the 2015 Composers Concordance Composers-Play-Composers Marathon concert.
